
Foods, especially medicinal foods, play a vital role in providing nutrients for healthy growth and in the management of clinical disorders. Unfortunately, half of the global population lacks access to afordable healthcare and a nutritious diet. Therefore, it is important to identify traditional and scientifcally proven therapeutic foods for disease management and the prevention of micronutrient defciencies. Baobab, one of nature ‘s gifts to mankind, is the focus of this study. The aim was to provide an overview of its medicinal and nutritional benefts through a literature search. Research indicates that baobab fruit pulp is a rich source of fber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and notably vitamin C, about fve to 10 times the content found in oranges. Additionally, baobab fruit pulp has been found to possess various therapeutic properties, including antibacterial, anti-infammatory, antidiabetic, anticancer, and antiulcer characteristics.
